![]() ![]() The Start menu ( Figure 1-4) is split into two columns. Tap to open the Start menu (or to close it!). If you feel that life’s too short, however, tap the key on the keyboard instead, or the button if it’s a tablet. If you’re the type who bills by the hour, you can open the Start menu ( Figure 1-3, lower left) by clicking it with the mouse. But it’s still called the Start menu, and it’s still the gateway to everything on the PC. In Windows 10, as you’ve probably noticed, the word “Start” doesn’t actually appear on the Start menu, as it did for years now the Start menu is just a square button in the lower-left corner of your screen, bearing the Windows logo ( ). Just about everything you do on your PC begins-or can begin-with your Start menu. ![]() It lists every useful piece of software on your computer, including commands, programs, and files. That’s why the Start menu is so important ( Figure 1-4). They may as well bear a sticker reading, “No user-serviceable parts inside.” ![]() The vast majority of them are not for you they’re support files, there for behind-the-scenes use by Windows and your applications. They injected users with malware and other problems, as reported by BleepingComputer. These scripts were from bad actors, but that wasn't known until later. A helpful script was discovered shortly after, allowing anyone to install the Google Play Store and other Google Services. When WSA was first announced, people immediately started looking for ways to install Google Play Store. Now that you're done installing WSA, you may think the next step is to install the Google Play Store and Play Services for an Android experience. Backing up and restoring Windows 10 and 11 installs is easy and doesn't require much effort. If you plan to install loads of apps, back up Windows. Winget install -id=9P3395VX91NR -e -accept-package-agreements All you do is open the command prompt or the terminal, type the following command, and press Enter: Microsoft has an excellent official support page that shows how to do this.Īlternatively, Winget can easily pull the WSA installer package from the Microsoft Store database. You might also need to install the Virtual Machine Platform feature in Windows 11, which involves downloading an update and restarting your computer. The instructions are slightly different for Intel or AMD-based systems. It involves going into the BIOS or UEFI on your computer and manually enabling the virtual machine setting for the CPU if it's disabled. If the Windows Subsystem for Android doesn't open and mentions something about a virtual machine, you'll need to do a few more things. ![]()
